Barra, 25 thousand signatures for a “Caivano model” against degradation and crime

ON THE SAME TOPIC

Naples – A cry of alarm is raised from the eastern outskirts of Naples: Barra, a forgotten neighborhood held hostage by crime, is asking the Government for urgent interventions for redevelopment and safety.

The entrepreneur Gianni Forte, spokesperson of an entire community, delivered to the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi a petition with almost 25 thousand signatures, an unmistakable signal of discontent and desire for change.

A Petition for Redemption

The petition, launched in November on Change.org, has received massive support, a tangible sign of the desperation of a population that feels abandoned by the institutions. “We want a better future for our children,” the text reads, “a neighborhood that promotes education, culture, legality and respect for the environment.” But Barra is a no man’s land, devoid of essential services and safeguards of legality, where organized crime and petty crime thrive, fueling a climate of fear and degradation.

The appeal to Minister Piantedosi

On Friday evening, during a Lega event in Bagnoli, Gianni Forte met with Minister Piantedosi, illustrating the critical issues of the territory and asking for a strengthening of the police force.

“We need more security,” the entrepreneur said, “tighter controls to restore legality and give serenity to citizens and small entrepreneurs.” Barra, according to Forte, has become “the 'Green Park' of Caivano,” an analogy that underlines the urgency of government intervention.

The hope for a change

Minister Piantedosi has committed to evaluating the issue, leaving the door open to the hope of change. The community of Barra confidently awaits a concrete response, a sign that the institutions have not forgotten this border land, where the desire for redemption is stronger than ever.

  1. It is important that the government listens to the requests of the citizens of Barra. The situation is really difficult and people need help now, not just words. We hope that there will be concrete actions to improve life here.
