Reggio Emilia – 27 years after the murder committed in Naples in 1998, Luigi Giuliano, nephew and namesake of the well-known boss of Forcella, was arrested and taken to the prison of Reggio Emilia to serve a definitive sentence of 16 years of imprisonment.
Article Key Points
The sentence, issued by the Court of Assizes of Naples in November 2021 and confirmed on appeal, became enforceable on January 7, after the appeal was rejected by the Court of Cassation.
Luigi Giuliano, 52, was far from the spotlight of organized crime, a world he had known since he was very young, just 13. Having moved to Reggio Emilia, he had tried to rebuild his life far from the shadows of the family clan.
However, in November 2020, he was once again in the news for a violent attack that took place in broad daylight in a shop on Via Fratelli Cervi. During an argument that broke out over jealousy, Giuliano had struck a man eight times, with a small knife in front of several witnesses.

The victim was the partner of a woman with whom Giuliano had had a relationship in the past. For that episode, he had been sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for aggravated injuries.
But it is the past that haunts him again. The murder for which he was convicted dates back to July 9, 1998, when a man lost his life in Naples. After a long judicial process, in 2021 the Court of Assizes of Naples found him guilty, sentencing him to 16 years in prison and 3 years of probation.
The sentence, confirmed on appeal and then by the Supreme Court, led to the issuing of a prison order by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, which was executed yesterday afternoon by the Carabinieri of the Reggio Emilia Principale station.
Luigi Giuliano is the nephew of the former king of Forcella, the boss Louis Julian, a historical figure of the Neapolitan Camorra, also known for having hosted Diego Armando Maradona in his home in the 80s. An iconic photo portrays the Argentine champion while relaxing in a shell-shaped bathtub, a symbol of an era in which the clan's power was at its peak.
Now, decades later, the nephew finds himself dealing with the weight of a cumbersome surname and a conviction that puts him back behind bars. His story, between past and present, is another piece in the complex mosaic of the fight against organized crime, which continues to mark lives and destinies, even thousands of kilometers from Naples.
