The Association Le Botteghe di San Gregorio Armeno has decided to join with conviction the initiative promoted by the activists of the Spanish Quarters to counter the distorted and violent image that the Gomorrah series has been imprinting on the city of Naples for too many years.
An image that does not belong to us, that devalues the authentic heart of our culture and that obscures the daily work of those who have always promoted art, craftsmanship, history and beauty.
The president of the Association, Maestro Vincenzo Capuano, wanted to send a strong and clear message, supporting the initiative to display a symbolic banner right at the entrance to Via San Gregorio Armeno, one of the most famous streets in the world, an emblem of Neapolitan creativity and tradition.
“Gomorra Napolesi on TV – The Naples of art can’t stand you anymore” – reads the banner, which was also enthusiastically welcomed by activists from the Spanish Quarters, who came specifically to San Gregorio Armeno to show their support and create a bridge of solidarity and brotherhood between the two cities.
“The time has come to say enough to those who continue to tell the story of Naples only through the lens of crime,” Capuano said. “We must protect it, tell it for what it really is: a cultural capital, a city that has given and continues to give the world artists, thinkers, artisans, intellectuals.
Naples is the city of hospitality, spirituality, craftsmanship and ingenuity. Our identity cannot be seized by commercial logics that feed stereotypes”.
The union between San Gregorio Armeno and the Spanish Quarters represents a strong gesture, a symbolic and concrete pact between two souls of the city, often forgotten or poorly described, but which today choose to join forces for a different Naples: proud, creative, alive.
Naples is not Gomorrah. Naples is culture. Naples is history. Naples is art.

The message is important but there are things that are not well understood, how can a TV series influence a city so much? Naples is beautiful and has a lot to offer, I hope this initiative leads to something positive for everyone.
