Pozzuoli – “Dear citizens, our beloved Pozzuoli was once again put to the test by a strong earthquake tonight. Elderly people, women, men, boys and children are probably experiencing the worst moments of their lives”.
Thus begins the post on Facebook by the mayor of Pozzuoli, Gigi Manzoni, about the magnitude 4.4 earthquake last night with its epicentre in via Napoli, in Pozzuoli, in the Campi Flegrei area.
“These are difficult days that are stressing the population. We are aware of this. I understand the anger and concerns of those who write to me even in very harsh tones. The phenomenon is registering record numbers and all this inevitably scares.
I will never tire of telling you, however, that you are not abandoned, you are not alone, that the attention on our city is constant by all the actors that make up the national civil protection machine", the mayor wrote again.
“It is hard to live like this – added the mayor – but we must not abandon hope and we must not get discouraged. Now it is important to team up and come together for the good of our beloved land. We are on the streets with technicians for checks at schools, we are responding to the reports we are receiving.
This morning, 23 municipal technical officials divided into 8 teams left to check the buildings and are checking 31 school buildings. The Palatrincone is permanently active, anyone who wants can use it as an assistance point, a warm place where it is possible to have lunch, sleep and receive assistance. We will leave the waiting areas active in the city and, as always, we will provide a shuttle service to reach the sports hall”.
Manzoni concludes by thanking "the prefect of Naples Michele di Bari for being in Pozzuoli this night" and "all the police forces, the municipal police and the voluntary associations present in our territory", the post of the mayor of Pozzuoli ends.
