Laterina Pergine Valdarno (Arezzo) – The Carabinieri of the Laterina Pergine Valdarno station have arrested three young Neapolitans aged between 18 and 23, accused of having defrauded an 83-year-old woman of a value of 12 thousand euros.
The operation was triggered following numerous reports of thefts in the area between Laterina Pergine Valdarno and Civitella in Val di Chiana. During a check, the military intercepted a suspicious car, which turned out to have been rented in Naples. Upon seeing the patrol, one of the occupants threw a package containing jewelry out of the window.
The subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of additional jewellery worth 8 thousand euros. The investigations revealed that the jewellery was the proceeds of a scam against aelderly resident in the province of Perugia.
The woman had been contacted by telephone by a self-styled lawyer who, with the excuse of a road accident in which her son had been involved, had requested the sum of 12 thousand euros or an equivalent value in jewels.
Shortly after, a man showed up at the old woman's home, taking advantage of the victim's confused state and taking the money and a box containing valuables.
The stolen goods were recovered in full and returned to the elderly woman, who recognized one of the three arrested as the man who had shown up at her door. The three young men were then arrested on charges of aggravated fraud.

The news was very interesting but there are many things that are not clear, why the carabinieri did not do more before. I hope that the old woman recovers from this bad experience and that justice is done.
