Palma Campania, here is the mural for Giancarlo Siani made by Luca Carnevale on a wall of the 'Vincenzo Russo' comprehensive institute
The mural dedicated to Giancarlo Siani, the journalist killed by the Camorra in 1985, created by Luca Carnevale in Palma Campania, on a wall of the 'Vincenzo Russo' comprehensive institute in via Trieste, was presented.
The presentation was attended by the school principal Enza D'Agostino, the councilor for culture Elvira Franzese, the mayor Nello Donnarumma and the honorable Paolo Siani, brother of Giancarlo. Also present were representatives of the Carabinieri, with the head of the Nola Company, captain Gerardo De Siena and the commander of the Palma Campania station, marshal Massimo Nasti.
Paolo Siani and the mayor answered questions from the “Vincenzo Russo” students, a delegation of third-year middle school students, the real protagonists of the morning with their important reflections.
Director D'Agostino explained that "the kids feel Siani is close to them" and underlined the importance of dialogue between institutions, which always brings results on the legality front. Councilor Franzese spoke of the need to "all be together to pursue legality and respect for the rules", adding that the city has long been pursuing a path of valorization of the territory through art. And it was precisely on art and legality that Mayor Nello Donnarumma focused: "What we are presenting is not just a wall: it is a symbol, it is a work of art that transmits a beautiful message". The Honorable Paolo Siani he highlighted the steps forward made towards legality and added: “The Camorra tried to silence Giancarlo, but now he speaks with the voices of many boys and girls”.
The students of the comprehensive institute asked Siani (and then also the mayor) many questions: from the personal relationship between the two brothers, to the pain that is renewed, to the message that the journalist has left over the years.
Luca Carnevale, the author of the mural who could not attend the event due to personal problems, is carrying out a project called HUMAnhERO, with which he tries to represent the facts of life through the language of comics, celebrating the protagonists of the latter as real superheroes (of the American kind), even though they are normal people, but making their status of "human" prevail over that of "super". The mural in Palma Campania dedicated to Giancarlo Siani was born as part of this project.
