Castellammare, Marian Jubilee Year at the Basilica Sanctuary of Pozzano

On July 2, 1874, Venerable Monsignor Francesco Saverio Petagna solemnly crowned the Icon of Our Lady of Pozzano, by decree of the Vatican Chapter.

Through this privilege, the ancient cult and the large number of graces obtained through the intercession of the Queen and Patron Saint of Castellammare di Stabia were officially recognized by the Church.

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the coronation, a solemn Marian Jubilee Year has been proclaimed, enriched by the gift of Indulgences granted by the Apostolic Penitentiary, by mandate of the Holy Father Pope Francis: the faithful will be able to gain plenary indulgence, from 2 July 2023 to 2 July 2024, by visiting the famous Sanctuary-Basilica, guarded by the Minim Friars of San Francesco di Paola.

To worthily celebrate the Jubilee Year, an Honorary Committee has been set up which is working to prepare the calendar of events that will begin on Sunday 2 July, at 19.00:XNUMX pm, with the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration of the opening of the Holy Door presided over by the Archbishop of Sorrento.Castellammare di Stabia Mons. Francesco Alfano, with the participation of religious organizations, associations and civil and military representatives of the territory.

On Monday 10 July at 20.00 pm the wonderful Sanctuary will be the 'stage' for the prestigious concert, promoted by Pino Ruocco, of the soloists of the Nuova Orchestra Alessandro Scarlatti conducted by maestro Gaetano Russo.

The first major event will be the patronal feast in honor of the Madonna di Pozzano on July 21st, which will be preceded by a solemn novena and the evening of July 20th, the eve of the solemnity.

The Provincial Corrector Father Francesco M. Carmelita, president of the Honorary Committee, has also decided to extend this year of grace in honor of the Madonna of Pozzano to all the communities of the Religious Province of Santa Maria della Stella including Campania, Sicily and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Rector, Father Federico M. Rubino, together with the Community of the Sanctuary, invites all citizens and devotees to prepare their hearts to celebrate this time of particular grace.
