The social agriculture project “Orto Condiviso” continues, tested in the prison of Eboli and was born from the collaboration between the penitentiary and Coldiretti Salerno and the voluntary association Gramigna of Pago Veiano (BN).
With the shared garden, the inmates take care of the uncultivated space inside the walls of the Colonna Castle, as an opportunity for rehabilitation and social integration. Ciro Altamura, a young agricultural entrepreneur from Salerno, wanted to donate to the Eboli penitentiary facility about 800 seedlings of vegetables, which the inmates themselves will grow. Present at the initiative were the regional delegate of Coldiretti Giovani Impresa Campania Francesco Zoccoli, the provincial councilor Ciro Altamura, the area secretary Paolo Farace of Coldiretti Salerno, the provincial secretary of the youth Chiara Marino, the director of the Casa di Reclusione Concetta Felaco, the educational area manager Monica Faiella, and Rosario Meoli of the Gramigna association.
The “Orto Condiviso” not only provides fresh and genuine products for the prison canteen, but also represents a bridge between the inmates and the outside community, thanks to the sale of surplus products grown. “The social garden is a wonderful experience that we are successfully experimenting with in the Eboli prison – explains the regional and provincial president of Coldiretti Ettore Bellelli – also thanks to the collaboration and generosity of our agricultural entrepreneurs who periodically make available seeds, seedlings and above all training for the inmates. A wonderful social initiative that sees Coldiretti Salerno engaged on the front line”.
