Napoli. In recent years, Naples airport Capodichino has seen significant growth, with an increase in the number of passengers and routes. However, this growth has not brought benefits to the city to the extent that it could have, due to the sale of the Municipality's shares of GESAC by the De Magistris administration.
“I agree with Mayor Manfredi’s statements,” said Gennaro Acampora, leader of the PD group in the Naples City Council. “The sell-off of the City’s shares in GESAC was a reckless act that impoverished the city. Before 2017, the City had ownership shares in the company that manages the airport, and this allowed the city to participate in the profits and have a decision-making role in the airport’s development policies. Now, however, the city is totally excluded from these decisions.”
"Capodichino is an asset to be enhanced - continued Acampora -, but we must not forget the problems related to flight noise. GESAC, after various requests, has finally expressed the will to discuss these problems. We must therefore work on concrete proposals to protect citizens who live in the areas most affected by flight noise. These proposals could include financial support for the installation of sound-absorbing panels or latest-generation fixtures, as well as interventions to improve the environmental eco-sustainability of the neighborhoods".
"The path is long - concluded Acampora -, but this is one of the paths to take. We also need better control of air routes, in order to minimize the impact of flights on citizens, and the development of other infrastructures in the Campania region, in order to organize flights to Naples and Campania in a more efficient and effective way".
