A 20 year old young man, originally from Napoli, was placed under house arrest by the Potenza Police on charges of aggravated fraud against a woman.
The facts date back to last November, when the young man introduced himself to the woman, aged 60, pretending to be an employee of the Revenue Agency. The man instilled in the victim the fear that her son could suffer a seizure of his assets, thus managing to have him deliver jewellery worth around 70 thousand euros.
The police investigations, also conducted through the analysis of video surveillance footage, allowed the alleged fraudster to be identified. The man was followed between the provinces of Potenza and Avellino and, during a search, the box containing the jewels was found, with the name of a jewelry store in Potenza.
The young man was then arrested by order of the investigating judge of the Court of Potenza, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The man is now under house arrest, awaiting trial.
The Police have urged citizens to be wary of this type of scam, which is based on fear and naivety of the victims. If in doubt, it is always advisable to contact the police.
