Permanently placed in the Mitra Hall, the video installation enriches the museum itinerary by allowing the public to immerse themselves in a special story of the different forms and signs of popular devotion and the celebrations of the miracles of the Saint. The presentation saw the participation of important personalities such as Mons. Vincenzo De Gregorio, Abbot Prelate of the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Girolamo Carignani di Novoli, Deputy of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Francesca Ummarino, Director of the Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Ilaria D'Uva, CEO of D'Uva srl, and Stefano Gargiulo of Kaos Produzioni.
A Contemporary Idea
The project was born from an idea by Ilaria D'Uva and Francesca Ummarino with the intent of completing the museum itinerary with a unique and contemporary experience that transmits to the visitor the emotion and energy of the three dates of the miracle of the liquefaction of the blood of San Gennaro. The goal is to revive the mystery of the cult, the true life of devotion, and the extraordinary different religious and popular expressions of every kind of public. The artistic direction and direction are by Stefano Gargiulo.
A Journey Through Symbols and Prayers
"Who is devoted to San Gennaro?” is a journey through images of symbols, faces, gestures and prayers to experience the museum in a new and contemporary way to discover that inseparable relationship between the city of Naples and its Patron Saint. To celebrate this new installation, the Tesoro di San Gennaro is offering an extraordinary opening on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June from 18 pm to 22 pm, with a reduced entrance ticket of €6.
An Advanced Technological Structure
The technological structure of the project includes five synchronized video projections and a stereo sound system, set up on four walls of the museum. In dialogue with Jewels symbolizing devotion to San Gennaro, such as the miter and the solemn necklace, the two frames on the front wall contain the portraits of the "devotees". Figures of men, women and children express their faith in San Gennaro with their human diversity.
Tributes and Famous Quotes
The second front wall features fragments representing the iconography of the Saint, with images of the solemn procession in May. The side walls evoke a dreamlike setting and include Friedrich Nietzsche's motto dedicated to San Gennaro. A special tribute is paid to Marcello Colasurdo, whose voice recites the inspiring words for San Gennaro, which also inspired the title of the video installation.
“Who is devoted to San Gennaro?” adds a new and important piece to the constant work of the museum management, which continues on its innovative path to create an ever deeper bond between the visitor and the museum spaces, accompanying the public to a greater knowledge of the world and history of the Patron Saint.
