The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, recently intervened on the delicate housing issue of the families evicted from the Vele di Scampia, reassuring citizens about their future accommodation. Interviewed on Rai3 during the program In half an hour, Manfredi explained that, thanks to the rent contribution guaranteed to all affected families, there are very few families who have not yet found new accommodation.
“The situation is under control”, said the mayor, adding that the families most in difficulty are also supported through the intervention of public institutions, the Curia and some private entities. The mayor also recalled that the Re-Start project is currently underway Scampia, which includes the demolition of the historic Vele and the construction of new housing for residents.
Manfredi then stressed that a census of families has been conducted and that there is a detailed resettlement plan. “All those who are entitled to it will have a new home”, he assured, explaining that the government has already allocated financial contributions for the families involved. During the transition period, which will last about two years – the estimated time for the demolition of the Vele and the construction of the new buildings – the families will receive support to find temporary housing solutions.
The mayor's gaze is also turned to the future: “We won't be talking about the Sails in twenty years, as has happened in the last forty”, said Manfredi. The work schedule is strictly linked to the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), which foresees the completion of the first 250 apartments by 2026.
