A coordinated action at European level

The operation involved not only the Italian territory, but also the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania and Croatia, with a total of 102 individuals targeted. The Croatian police executed 11 precautionary detention orders against as many suspects, underlining the international nature of the investigation.

A large-scale IT infrastructure

According to law enforcement, the organization would have used a complex IT infrastructure, which had over 22 million end users. The Catania police headquarters, which released the note, defined the operation as "the largest conducted so far" regarding the piracy audiovisual.

Economic impact of piracy

Audiovisual piracy is not only a copyright issue, but it has a significant impact on the economy of the content industry. Estimates point to billions in losses for the entertainment industry, as illegal streaming undermines legitimate revenues and growth opportunities for content producers and creators.

It's interesting to see how the police are doing a great job against piracy, but I wonder if this operation has had a real impact on the economy. I hope they can continue to fight this problem effectively, since there are so many users involved.
