More than thirty years after his death, Annibale Ruccello continues to influence contemporary Italian theatre.
On November 14th, at 17.00 pm, at the Sala Assoli of Naples, will be held the presentation of the critical edition of the works of the Campanian playwright. A significant event that brings together scholars, actors and testimonies to reflect on the cultural legacy of Ruccello.A Memory Lived On Stage
The initiative promoted by the University of Naples Federico II and Casa del Contemporaneo aims to enhance Ruccello's works through the critical edition of his texts and the creation of a dedicated archive. Thanks to this project, unpublished documents and materials that illustrate his career will be preserved and made accessible. The curation of the critical edition has been entrusted to a team of experts from the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University Federico II, including Simone Magherini, Andrea Mazzucchi, Matteo Palumbo, Pasquale Sabbatino and Piermario Vescovo.
Ruccello, known for works such as “Jennifer’s Five Roses,” “Weekend,” “Ferdinando,” and “Anna Cappelli,” continues to be an influential voice in drama. His ability to capture the depths of the human condition makes his works relevant and relevant.
Participation of Artists and Scholars
The event on November 14 will be enriched by the presence of actors who have embodied Ruccello's characters, together with scholars and traveling companions of the writer. After the greetings of the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, professionals such as Vincenzo Caputo, Monica Citarella, Matteo Palumbo and others will share critical reflections on the works of the playwright.
In addition, Benedetta Buccellato will present a new version of “Anna Cappelli”, on stage from November 15 to 17, playing the role that Ruccello had written especially for her. The show will offer the audience an opportunity to relive the intensity and humanity of Ruccello's dramas.
Homage to the Master
The event will conclude with screenings of “Ferdinando,” directed by Giuseppe Bertolucci, and “L'ereditiera” by Arturo Cirillo, both emblematic works of Ruccello’s theatrical panorama. The audience will be able to immerse themselves in the playwright’s world through these cinematic adaptations.
