On the night between December 19 and 20, the military of the Naval Air Operations Department of Naples, in collaboration with the personnel of the competent ASL, carried out an operation at the Volla fish market, seizing and destroying 10 tons of fish products of foreign origin without traceability.
The lack of proper documentation made the fish potentially dangerous for human consumption. The operation also led to a fine of approximately 50.000 euros against the legal representatives of five companies in the sector.
The companies had failed to comply with fundamental obligations, including communications to the Veterinary Offices for Community Compliance (UVAC) and the registration of activities on the GISA portal of the Campania Region. During the checks, an irregularly employed worker was also identified.
Authorities have announced that controls on the supply chain fish will continue and will be further intensified in the coming weeks, in view of the increased demand for fish during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
