Homemade fireworks offer no guarantee of safety and can have unpredictable consequences, especially if they contain kilos of explosive powder, further increasing the risk. Giuseppe De Martino, 53, known to law enforcement, was hiding a significant amount of explosive material in his garage. Carabinieri officers from the Gragnano station discovered that he was illegally possessing numerous fireworks destined for the black market.
The seized material included a 2-kilo homemade bomb, a 1-kilo bomb, seven large 100-gram firecrackers, three kilos of "Cobra" ammunition in black packages, fifteen batteries of 100 or 50 rounds, and 40 boxes of various fireworks and "magnum" rounds. The Carabinieri of Gragnano arrested De Martino for illegal possession of explosives and subsequently transferred him to Poggioreale prison.
The explosive material was seized and made safe with the help of the Carabinieri of the Artificer Unit of the Provincial Command of Naples.
