As in 2023, 2024 also ends with Argentina at the top of the FIFA ranking. The world champion national team, led by Lionel Scaloni, maintains first place ahead of France and Spain. The Top Ten remains substantially unchanged compared to the last update on November 28, with England fourth, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Holland and Belgium.
Luciano Spalletti's Italy remains stable in ninth place, ahead of Germany, the Azzurri's next opponent in the Nations League quarter-finals. Argentina, with 1867.25 points accumulated, confirms its position as an undisputed power in world football, followed closely by France with 1859.78 points and Spain with 1853.27.
Italy, despite not recording significant variations, consolidates its presence in the Top Ten, an encouraging sign for the reconstruction work undertaken under the leadership of Spalletti. Among the notable notes of 2024 is the surprising climb of Angola, which in just 12 months gained 32 positions, closing the year in 85th place. A result that testifies to the progress of football in emerging realities.

It's great to see Argentina still first in the FIFA ranking, but Italy could have done more. Spalletti did a good job but more consistency is needed and maybe a few more victories to climb the rankings.
