Benevento - Ten smartphones and ten doses of drugs seized, and four inmates reported to the judicial authorities: this is the result of an operation by the penitentiary police in the prison of Benevento which was attended by the staff serving in the prison, the staff of the translation and guard units of the Campania Region and the regional dog handlers group.
“Congratulations for the brilliant operation,” commented the president of the Uspp Giuseppe Moretti and the regional secretary of Campania Ciro Auricchio. “In Campania the penitentiary police are distinguishing themselves in the fight against the illegal use of cell phones and drug dealing and consumption in prisons, confirming themselves as a pillar for maintaining security and legality.”
But, according to the Uspp, in order for the counteraction to be more effective, it is necessary to equip the agents with technologically advanced tools "to shield the detention sections with jammers, signal inhibitors, capable of preventing organized crime affiliates from keeping in touch with the outside and organizing their illicit business even while in prison".

The operation appears to have been well planned and successfully executed. However, it is important to also consider long-term measures to prevent the smuggling of phones and drugs. Technology can help.
The operation seems to be effective, but more measures are needed to prevent the use of smartphones in prison. It is important that law enforcement continue to work to ensure security.
I agree with the importance of technology in the fight against drugs and cell phones in prison, but we also need more psychological support for prisoners, otherwise things will not change.
