Naples - "We are completing the mandate that Vittorio Passeggio entrusted to us: to tear down the concrete monsters, the prejudices and to regain the dignity of a people who have never given up". With these words, Omero Benfenati, representative of the Vele Committee, spoke at the meeting "Scampia in movement: starting again from the suburbs”, promoted by the newspaper La Repubblica, remembering the figure of Vittorio Passeggio, historical leader and promoter of the struggles for the regeneration of the neighborhood.
“We are not spectators of the trial, we are the trial itself,” added Benfenati, “we are those who, in total darkness, when Scampia was synonymous only with Gomorrah, resisted that defamatory label that was sewn onto us for years, without ever lowering our guard.”
The representative of the Vele Committee then retraced the difficulties encountered: "We have had many doors slammed in our faces, we have been discriminated against, considered ugly, dirty and bad. Today, however, we have shown that unity and the desire for redemption can lead to dignity and normality. The road is still long, but we are certain that we have reached an important goal".

I read the article and it seems to me that there are many problems to address, but also possible solutions. The history of Scampia is complex, but Benfenati's words give hope. I hope that the projects will be successfully implemented.
