Salerno – A school trip turned into a health emergency. Over seventy students from Recanati, on an educational trip in Campania, suffered sudden illnesses, most likely due to food poisoning.
The episode required the intervention of the Carabinieri, the ASL health workers and the NAS, who were promptly alerted to ascertain the causes of the incident.
The dynamics
The group, visiting the Pertosa Caves (Salerno), had lunch near the tourist site before returning to a hotel in Capaccio Paestum, where they also had dinner. In the following hours, several children began to show symptoms attributable to intoxication, prompting the teachers to contact the local Carabinieri Station.
Help me
The station commander immediately alerted the ASL and the NAS (Anti-Adulteration Unit), while the 118 ambulances also intervened on site.
Fortunately, none of the young people needed hospitalization. After initial treatment, the students in stable conditions were able to return home, while others – still debilitated – would remain in the facility awaiting full recovery.
The investigations
At the moment it is not yet clear which meal - whether lunch or dinner - triggered the illness. The NAS military, together with health workers, are carrying out the necessary checks to trace the origin of the contamination. In the meantime, the school and families have been informed, while local authorities ensure maximum transparency in the checks.
An incident that casts a shadow over what should have been a formative experience and which could now also have repercussions from a health and legal perspective.

It's really strange that these things happen on school trips, I thought safety was a priority. I hope the authorities will clarify what happened and that the kids are okay after all.
