Naples Metro Line 1, Università station reopens on Sunday. The station had been closed since June 15 for pavement works
On Sunday 16 October, the Università station on Line 1 of the Naples metro will reopen to the public.
The work to replace the station's flooring, made necessary by widespread damage, began on 15 June and was carried out by the Toledo Scarl company, a company in the MN spa group that built the station at the time.
The University station is below the water table: the railway level is over 25 metres below sea level and its construction was particularly complex as it required the use of advanced excavation techniques in the presence of water.
However, the humidity that characterizes the station environments is characterized by a degree of aggressiveness, due precisely to the saline nature, which over time has led to detachments of the flooring on the various levels of the station, so much so as to require a radical intervention not only to replace the material, suitable for the humid environment, but also a different method of installation.
In total, approximately 1.750 m230 of flooring were replaced, on the various levels and on the platform, and over XNUMX metres of the Loges path. The intervention, completed on schedule, was carried out respecting the original design and the colour choices of the architects Mendini and Rashid, with the stability of the walkway restored.
