From Monday, hopefully, for the circulation of trains on line 2 of the Naples Metro everything should return to normal for Neapolitans and tourists.
The announced inconveniences due to the train block, due to construction, are all there. Black week for public transport in Naples. Angry citizens, disoriented tourists and large crowds on line 1 to make up for line 2 that will not operate until Sunday.
Naples Metro Line 2 is stopped between the San Giovanni – Barra and Campi Flegrei stations. The line stoppage began on the night of August 19 and will continue until the weekend, August 26.
Maintenance work on the railway infrastructure and waterproofing of the Posillipo tunnel. A replacement bus service has not been planned. A shuttle bus, every fifteen minutes, connects Naples San Giovanni Barra and Napoli Central while for the Naples Gianturco station there are two trains every hour in conjunction with trains to and from Salerno.
The problems caused by the stop of line two are not few. Especially in Piazza Garibaldi there is great chaos. Very long lines, interminable waits and a lot of confusion and disorientation especially among tourists who arrive at the station trying to use the subway line 1 to go and discover the city.
The lines at the ticket offices of the metro line managed by Anm, however, are very long. And the trains are also very crowded because line 1 cannot handle the entire extra load of passengers due to the stoppage of line 2.
The Forza Italia group in the Naples City Council criticizes the administration for the closure of the subway line 2, due to maintenance and infrastructure improvement works, in force until 4 am on Sunday 27 August.
“In the last few days – recall the city councilors Iris Savastano and Salvatore Guangi – we have witnessed for the umpteenth time the closure of the metro 2 for works and the chaos created to the detriment of tourists. Certainly not something new.
What leaves us once again disheartened is that for months we have been inviting the administration to find a stable agreement with the unions to move the work on the metro stations during the night, leaving the service to be used by citizens and tourists who are invading Naples this summer”.
"We succeeded only months ago, with the support of the government, which guaranteed night-time tests for the introduction of the new trains. After that, full stop: not a month goes by without maintenance work during the day - conclude the FI representatives - and continuous suspensions of the subway to the detriment of the city itself. When will we change the method?".
