Juvenile prisons in Campania are experiencing overcrowding and other related problems, particularly in Nisida and Airola.
This situation has been brought to the attention of the prison police unions SiNAPPe, OSAPP, UIL PA/PP, USPP, FNS CISL and FSA CNPP. These unions are requesting the intervention of the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice and other competent institutional bodies to address the situation, calling it “no longer tolerable”.
In particular, the trade unionists highlight the presence of juvenile detainees and young adults mainly from Northern institutions with social and psychiatric problems, who are often also the authors of critical events within prisons.
Furthermore, the need to restructure the Airola Institute is highlighted to improve the precarious living conditions. The unions are calling for urgent measures to protect the community, capable of combining treatment expectations with safety needs, while respecting the dignity of people.
