The Easter weekend in Naples was marked by various problems related to public transport.
Citizens and tourists who chose Naples for the traditional Easter Monday trip had to face significant inconveniences. In particular, queues of an hour or more were reported to access Metro Line 1, starting from Piazza Garibaldi.
The waiting time tended to double for those who also had to buy tickets. These difficulties were denounced by the Unione Sindacale di Base (USB), which had previously highlighted long waits also for the Alibus at Capodichino.
According to Marco Sansone and Adolfo Vallini of USB, it is paradoxical that the municipality of Naples does not perceive the urgency to invest more in local public transport services.
This need is heightened during special days such as Easter, when the arrival of almost 300 thousand tourists is expected.
Garibaldi metro station, with the highest number of passengers, has kept its second entrance closed since Covid-19 restrictions were activated.
This has caused long queues of tourists and local citizens who want to reach the most famous art stations and tourist spots in the city.
