The seventh edition of the historical cycling event of the city of Naples “La Vulcanica” returns on May 19, 2024. The Neapolitan vintage cycling event, the Vulcanica, is an event mainly run on roads with cobblestones, the cazzimbocchi in the Neapolitan dialect. This is where you will experience the spirit of cycling from times gone by.
This is the second stage of the 2024 Giro delle Regioni Ciclostoriche circuit with ten events throughout Italy, from the Maleventum of Benevento and the Marittima of Scauri, the historical cycle race from the waterfalls to the Isola Liri lake, La Velletrana, La Felliniana, the Epica of Caserta, the Carrareccia of Lake Bolsena, the “Francesco nei Sentieri” of Perugia, the Aglianica of Taursasi and the historical cycle race Puglia of Polignano a Mare.
If you say cazzimbocchio, in fact you say Naples. A version of coso, an emergency name for any object or person whose name you can't remember or whose exact denomination you don't know at all, more genuine, more colorful, probably also with an offensive streak, at least originally. The term, however, indicates porphyry cubes for paving streets, the cobblestones in short.
The goal is to take a dip into the past, from clothing, to bikes, to the route, everything has a more authentic flavor. Without too much technology, nor technical suits. Spirit of adventure, sweat, effort and brotherhood among the participating cyclists are the key ingredients for the success of the event. The mandatory regulation requires that in order to participate it is necessary to have vintage bikes in order to free from attics and warehouses vehicles that have been standing still for years and get them moving again. Because we know that bikes have a soul and in this way we bring them back to life.
The appointment is for Sunday 19 May at 7.00:XNUMX sharp at Bicycle House, Galleria Principe di Napoli, coffee and croissant and off we go. The first panoramic passage will be at the Monte Echia viewpoint, followed by an energy recharge with the Poppella snowflake at Sanità.
We will continue passing through the Botanical Garden to the Real Albergo dei Poveri, then to the Real Bosco di Capodimonte, going up from the new access of Santa Maria ai Monti that will take the participants to the magnificent refreshment of Giardino Torre, a historic Bourbon citrus grove renovated with care and style by Delizie Reali. After leaving the woods we will pass through the Vallone San Rocco, welcomed by the association “Ponte tra Quartiere e Vallone” and then dive into the Sanità and Quartieri Spagnoli.
There will be a passage in Piazza del Plebiscito, a passage along the seafront admiring the Castel dell'Ovo and then the cyclists will find themselves facing the splendid hairpin bends uphill towards the Posillipo hill with unique views overlooking the Gulf of Naples. The novelty this year will be the double route, in fact in addition to the classic route of about 50 kilometers (with less than 1000 meters of altitude difference) that will cross the city far and wide showing its artistic heritage in all its splendor, there will also be the extended version that will reach the Phlegraean area on the shores of Lake Averno for a well-deserved refreshment with the delicious Procolino, a typical dessert of the city of Pozzuoli from the Antica Pasticceria del Giudice and a passage in the forty hectares of the park of the Mostra d'Oltremare.
The Vulcanica is promoted by the Napoli Pedala Association, is one of the sporting events supported by ARUS Regione Campania, enjoys the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Italy, INAIL Campania and the patronage of the Campania Region, the Municipality of Naples, the Parco delle Colline Metropolitane di Napoli and is part of the Primavera della mobilità Dolce di AMODO.
