An episode of harassment involved Giovanna Grassi, a 48-year-old controller of the Circumvesuviana, while she was on duty. The case was also made public through a post on social media made by the president of Eav, Umberto de Gregorio.
Grassi recounted the incident, explaining how a man between the ages of 50 and 60, in a wheelchair, initially asked for help to climb some steps. “I approached,” Grassi said, “he kissed my hand in gratitude and then offered to lean on me to make the climb easier. It was at that moment that, after hugging me, he groped me.”
The inspector immediately reported the incident to the railway police, highlighting how the man had already committed similar crimes in the past.
This isn’t the only difficulty she’s encountered on the job. Grassi shared that in the past she’s been the victim of spitting, kicking, and insults, and recalls an episode in which a street sock vendor slapped her hard after she asked him to show her ticket. “Despite everything, I like this job,” the controller said, emphasizing her determination to continue despite the adversity.
