The Tree of Rebirth was set up, for the second consecutive year, in the Hematology Transplant department of the Cardarelli hospital in Naples, symbolizing the new life of patients after the transplant.
Humanization of care
The project of the Tree of Rebirth aims to humanize care and create a climate of empathy and closeness around patients, who can remain hospitalized for up to a month. This is the first project of its kind in Italy and its name recalls the “rebirth” of the patient, since after the transplant for many a second life begins.
Messages of courage
A distinctive element of this project are the “Christmas Droplets”, decorated by patients, family members and professionals, who can leave personal messages to share their stories and give strength to others. In the future, an app being developed by students of the ITIS Galileo Ferraris in Scampia will also be available to write the droplets in digital format.
The initiative, conceived by Domenico Buonanno, has also received the support of Stefano De Martino, Franco Ricciardi, the newly elected president of the Italian Rowing Federation Davide Tizzano, the RAI journalist Gerardo D'Amico, the OPI president Teresa Rea and the AIL Napoli president Valeria Rotoli.
The UOC Hematology with Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant has performed over 150 transplants since 2019 and recently received the qualification for CarT cell therapy. Regarding transplants, the governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, highlighted the waiting lists for organs and launched an appeal to the population for organ donation, underlining the importance of expressing willingness to remove them to save human lives.
