A new act of vandalism desecrates the place where he was murdered Angelo Vassallo, the 'fisherman mayor'. As reported Dario Vassallo, president of the Foundation named after him, the symbols commemorating the murder were removed and, in place of the olive tree uprooted by a landslide, a banana tree was planted.
“This gesture,” thunders Vassallo, “is an offense not only to the memory of my brother, but to the entire community that loved him. It is an attempt to erase his history and to insult a symbol of legality and civil commitment.”
The Foundation has already filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office Vallo della Lucania, asking that full light be shed on the incident and those responsible be identified.
“That place,” Vassallo concludes, “belongs to all of us. We will not allow it to be desecrated.”
