An unpublished text by the philosopher Aldo Masullo, first presented in 2014, was published as a book under the title “Napoli daughter of the broom”.
The work, curated by the Association GreenCare Award and published by Artem, enriches the literary production with illustrations by the architect Davide Vargas, drawings by the young Caterina Coppola and contributions by emblematic figures such as Alessandra Vinciguerra and Fabrizio Coscia. The preface is entrusted to the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi. The roots of the city
In his original speech, Masullo invited us to imagine a group of Cumaeans of Greek origin who arrived on the Gulf of Naples, attracted by the yellow of the brooms. This natural symbolism became an emblem for the foundation of Neapolis. Over time, the yellow of the brooms gave way to the color of the tuff, a characteristic material of the city.
The presentation of the volume
The presentation event was held at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio. During the ceremony, Gaetano Manfredi underlined the importance of the project, highlighting the symbolic value of Neapolitan tuff, compared to the resistance of the broom. The GreenCare Award, promoter of the initiative, aims to stimulate positive changes through environmental respect.
The publication also celebrates 2500 years of history of Naples. Gianfranco D'Amato, linked to the GreenCare Award, hopes that the initiative will catalyze future positive changes. Michele Pontecorvo Ricciardi sees the book as a way to promote concrete actions in favor of the environment. Actress Gea Martire and Costanza Pellegrini of Artem also attended the event.
The project is non-profit; the cover price, set at 12 euros, will be entirely donated to the activities of the GreenCare Prize. Masullo's text will be available from February 17 as a free audiobook on the association's website.
