The samples taken last August 18th from the bathing waters of the municipalities of Ascea and Centola (a hamlet of Palinuro) “did not reveal any presence of potentially toxic microalgae species”.
This was announced by the Campania Regional Environmental Protection Agency, which released a brief update on the extraordinary checks on the quality of the sea in Cilento. In the waters of the two municipalities, it adds, "an abundant bloom of a non-toxic microalgae belonging to the phylum Chlorophyta - class Prasinophyceae was found, similarly to what was found following sampling last July in the waters of the Gulf of Naples.
The green color of the sea water, in the points where the samples in question were taken, appears to be attributable to this bloom".
