Naples. “The situation in our prisons is becoming more and more dramatic day by day.
Overcrowding, lack of workers, the tragedy of suicides, the critical issues of the health system make these places unlivable and violate the fundamental rights of the person.
The Church of Naples, united with its bishop Don Mimmo Battaglia, listening to the cry of prisoners and their families, wants to be a voice of support and hope so that there are serious and urgent responses that respect the law and favor human dignity".
This is what we read in a press release from the Office for Prison Pastoral Care “Don Elvio Damoli” of the Archdiocese of Naples, directed by Don Franco Esposito, which announces a press conference on Friday 19 July at 11 a.m. in the Diocesan Prison Pastoral Center in via Giuseppe Buonomo 39.
The press conference will be attended by Don Franco Esposito, director of the Prison Pastoral Office, Father Alex Zanotelli, Combonian missionary, Samuele Ciambriello, regional guarantor of prisoners in Campania, and Don Tonino Palmese, municipal guarantor of prisoners in Naples.
Also present will be people in the care of social services at the Prison Pastoral and prisoners hosted at the "Liberi di volare" reception center.
