The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, today issued a circular addressed to all the mayors of the metropolitan area of Naples and the mountain communities of the region, with the aim of optimizing water resources in view of the summer season. This initiative responds to a specific request from the Region Campania, concerned about the reduction of water reserves.
In the circular, the Prefect of Bari stressed the importance of a rational and parsimonious use ofwater, addressing his appeal to both citizens and businesses. “It is essential to use water wisely in domestic, agricultural and industrial environments”, he declared, also urging to reduce the consumption of drinking water for non-domestic purposes, such as watering gardens and washing cars.
The prefect invited mayors to consider distributing informative handbooks to raise awareness among citizens on the topic of water saving. These documents could offer practical advice to reduce waste and promote virtuous behavior. The idea is to actively involve the population in a collective action to protect water resources, which are particularly precious during the summer months.
The note from the Campania Region that prompted the prefect's intervention highlights the seriousness of the situation. In recent years, the region has seen a significant decrease in water reserves, a phenomenon aggravated by climate change and rising summer temperatures. Regional authorities are therefore trying to implement preventive measures to avoid critical situations, such as those experienced in the past.
