“Precisely for this reason – he continues – in a moment of great suffering for the city of Campobasso, because the springs have emptied, it was decided not to take away the water from Campania and Benevento, but to reduce the flow of water from Molise towards Campania, only temporarily and without causing damage to the city of Benevento, simply a partial reduction, which would allow us to avoid the disaster in Campobasso.
If there is an emergency in Molise, in Campobasso, in the name of the principle of solidarity, we would have expected that Campania would raise the issue of making a gesture of solidarity towards us".
Finally Forte concludes: "This request is based precisely on the principle of solidarity, because at this moment Campobasso is suffering. The proposal to reduce the flow of water towards Campania was proposed to us by the Molise Region, after we suffered damage due to poor planning and in the face of an emergency we asked for extraordinary responses".
Mastella today had used very harsh words towards his colleague. “I am simply shocked by the statements of the left-wing mayor of the city of Campobasso Marialuisa Forte.
The request to reduce the water flow to the city of Bneveneto is an affront, a real insult to the institutional culture: the first letter of the constitutional, institutional and political alphabet is solidarity between the territories together with the dialogue between institutions: I fear at this point that the mayor does not know the ABC of politics and institutional grammar”.
"Water - says Mastella - is a primary good and is not owned by anyone: not by the mayor of Campobasso, nor by any other mayor. But does Forte really think that the solution to this devastating and widespread problem of water scarcity, which is experienced throughout the South, is the water war between the cities and the Regions?
Do you really want to play stealing the pieces from others, like in a children's game? Interregional water transfers are based on the elementary principle of unity of the country for a moral and legal bond, as Irpinia has always done with Puglia".
“I read that the mayor is the expression of a Pd-5Stelle-Avs coalition: I would not like – concludes Mastella – that the maximalist culture of a certain left, of which I see predominant traits also here in Benevento and which is always prone to institutional conflict and head-on confrontation, takes over: it would be a political disaster, first and foremost for the Pd”.
