With determination, Miriam encouraged the woman, who didn't even know how to swim, shouting: “Don’t give up, fight, please!” Then he adds: “I just knew I could swim and I had to get to her. There was nothing else in my mind but to save that life.”
Miriam says: “I was on duty in the square when I heard that a person had thrown himself from the bridge. I ran to the scene and, after regulating traffic to facilitate the rescue, I left my task to a colleague and rushed towards the river. The woman was still alive, I saw her trying to protect herself by hugging herself. I took a canoe, even though I had never led her, I grabbed an oar and entered the water. Despite the very strong current, I reached her, I lifted her head to protect her from freezing and I continued to talk to her to calm her down.”
“I want to meet her again,” Miriam continues. “You have to explain to me why you did that. I won’t leave you alone, I want you to keep talking to me.”
Miriam kept in touch with the woman until the arrival of the firefighters, who rescued her. During the operations, the agent herself ended up in the water, but was promptly recovered by rescuers.
