AGROPOLI – Two brothers arrested for usury and extortion aggravated against a local trader: this morning, the Carabinieri of the Company of Agropoli have executed a precautionary custody order in prison against Carmine and Gerardo Cesarulo, by order of the investigating judge of the Court of Vallo della Lucania, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigations, the two would have forced with serious threats a merchant to hand them sums of money as a usurious interests, linked to a loan granted in the past. In particular, Gerardo Cesarulo had already been convicted for a similar case against the same victim, after having applied interest rates well above the legal limits on a previous loan.
Despite the conviction, Gerardo continued to demand money from the victim, involving his brother Carmine and increasing the threats to obtain payment. The arrest warrant was issued following the collection of serious indications of guilt, confirmed by the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office Vallo della Lucania. The two brothers are now in prison, while the authorities continue their investigations to combat the phenomenon of usury in the area.
