Rudi Garcia returns to talk about his experience at Napoli and does so with words that leave little room for interpretation: “Time is a gentleman”, says the new Belgian coach in an interview with The Team, referring to his adventure in blue and his relationship with the president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Asked if he felt like a "prisoner" during his short tenure at the helm of Napoli, Garcia he responded with a curt “a little bit yes”, highlighting the difficulties encountered in managing the team. “I left them in fourth place and in the end they came tenth, with two other coaches”, recalled the French coach, highlighting how the club's crisis continued even after his dismissal. “I didn’t do everything perfectly, but I was right. The subsequent results demonstrate the president’s mistakes”, he added.
Despite the criticism of De Laurentiis, Garcia reiterated his affection for the Neapolitan environment: “I loved everything about Naples: the city, the stadium, the fans, the team. Except the interference of the president”. The coach also revealed some details of his contract after his dismissal: “I was still under contract with Napoli, with a confidentiality clause and my image rights still owned by the club”, he explained, specifying that there was no financial agreement and that the bond with the Azzurri lasted until last summer.
