A 15 months from the clashes that occurred during the Bundesliga match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgart, the German prosecutor's office and police have launched an operation to identify and arrest a group of ultras considered among the main perpetrators of the violence.
The authorities have published on Frankfurt Police website the images of 29 fans of theEintracht, suspected of having participated in the clashes of November 2023The aim is to gather information to trace the identity of those involved, accused of serious breach of public peace.
According to the police report, the clashes occurred before and during the match against Stuttgart. A group of Eintracht fans allegedly attacked security officers throwing barriers, fire extinguishers, garbage cans and fireworksThe clashes caused over 200 injured, including several police officers.
Following these events, a special commission composed by 50 members, called Market 2511. So far, the following have been started 93 investigations, but no formal charges have yet been filed. The police decision to publish photos of suspects has prompted reactions from the Frankfurt football club. Philipp Reschke, a member of the Eintracht board of directors, expressed doubts about the proportionality of the measure:
“The principle of proportionality must meet the highest standards in each individual case. We will carefully assess whether this measure has been applied correctly, as cases could end up on our desks for stadium bans.” So far Eintracht has issued 65 entry bans, 10 of which are suspended, while others 10 cases are still under evaluation. If found guilty of particularly serious violation of public peace, the fans involved could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
