BENEVENTO – Two separate environmental police operations conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Benevento have led to the seizure of over 50 tons of special waste and to the complaint of 11 Guests for crimes related to the illegal management of waste.

The first operation was triggered by a roadside check carried out by the military Economic and Financial Police Unit along the 09 motorway junction BeneventoThe finance police stopped a articulated lorry loaded with mixed waste coming from Piedmont and headed to the province of Avellino for disposal.
After an initial check, the military confirmed that it was special waste – including plastic materials, construction waste, iron, rubber, wood and body parts – transported without the necessary authorizations. The entire load, approximately 23 tons, was seized, as was the semi-trailer that transported it. The driver of the vehicle and four other individuals were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Benevento.
Second intervention: warehouse transformed into illegal landfill
During further checks on the territory, the financial police identified a 6.000 square meter industrial warehouse on the outskirts of Benevento, transformed into a real illegal landfill. Inside were found piles of waste of various kinds – plastic, electrical materials, construction waste, iron, rubber, wood and body parts – as well as a articulated lorry ready for unloading.
The operation led to the seizure of the shed, of 30 tons of waste stored inside and of a trailer containing another 24 tons of unclassified waste. Seven people have been reported to the competent Judicial Authority. The investigations are now being examined by the judiciary, and the guilt of the suspects will be ascertained only in the event of a final sentence.

It is incredible how there are people who continue to manage waste illegally, putting the environment and everyone's health at risk. We need to do more to prevent these situations and punish those who make mistakes.
