A legend of clay shooting comes back to life between the pages of a book and in the heart of his land. On Saturday 10 May 2025, at 11:00, the Sala Liani of the Museo Campano in Capua will host the presentation of 199 – The Genius of Shooting, fictionalized autobiography of Angelo Scalzone, the first Olympic champion from the province of Caserta, who in Munich '72 snatched the gold medal in the Olympic Trench with a formidable 199 out of 200, a record that still stands today in the history of the Olympics.
Written by Antonio Leone, a journalist and fellow countryman of the athlete, the book retraces fifty years of an intense and unconventional life, in an era in which sport was still pure passion, far from the lights and logic of professionalism. “Angelo was not only a champion with a rifle – explains Leone – but a man with a rare spirit, capable of transforming challenges into opportunities for rebirth. Telling his story today is an act of memory, but also an invitation to believe in the power of commitment and tenacity”.
The meeting is part of the prestigious program of the Capua The Place of the Language Festival, in its twentieth edition, directed by Giuseppe Bellone. A festival that has always united words, territory and identity, giving voice to narratives capable of inspiring and restoring a sense of belonging. And Scalzone's is much more than a sports story: it is a living piece of collective memory, a heritage of values to be passed down.
At the presentation, alongside the author, there will be great names in sports and culture such as Ennio Falco, another Olympic champion in clay pigeon shooting, the president of CONI Campania Sergio Roncelli, and representatives of local institutions, starting with Vincenzo Corcione and Andrea Maria Scalzone, the champion's nephew. Moderating, the journalist Luigi Di Lauro.
