Procida 2022, 70 innovators for the hackathon that looks to the future. Three days of events as part of Innovation Village
Culture and innovation together in Procida, in view of the final of “Innovation Village”. Three days of events, starting today, dedicated to innovation are scheduled until Sunday 16 October: the island – as part of the program of Italian Capital of Culture 2022 – hosts a special award and a hackathon. At the Procida Hall in via Roma 1, the final of the special award “Culture does not isolate” is taking place today, dedicated to thematic area IV of the Innovation Village Award 2022, which includes Culture, New media and Education.
The event is organized with Federica Web Learning, the digital platform that offers free access to training and culture. The ten finalist projects were selected through a national call to which approximately 80 entities operating in the field of digital innovation with a cultural basis submitted applications. The competing projects will be presented on stage in the presence of, among others, Dino Ambrosino, mayor of Procida; Agostino Riitano, director of Procida Italian Capital of Culture 2022; Annamaria Capodanno, director of Innovation Village, Knowledge for Business; and Umberto D'Oriano, brand and communication manager of Optima Italia; the two winners will be awarded by Riitano and Capodanno, accessing the general final of the seventh edition of the Innovation Village Award 2022 which will be held in Città della Scienza, Naples, on October 27.
On Saturday and Sunday, instead, in the same location, space will be given to “Procida HaC(k)ultura”, a great event that - according to the hackathon format, provides a design space in which experts and professionals from different sectors, in a limited and concentrated period of time, collaborate to develop new design ideas applied to the resolution of issues, set in a specific reference context. Designers and innovators from all over Italy and selected through a call to action, will compete in two intensive days of design and discussion around four issues launched by AlmavivA, EAV, Giffoni Innovation Hub and the FIRM project of the CNR on cultural, environmental, mobility and social innovation issues.
“The activities of these days confirm the role of Procida as a laboratory of social innovation and urban regeneration, activator of virtuous processes, with spaces dedicated to ecological transition and new cultural and creative entrepreneurship, with an eye to the relaunch of the Mezzogiorno, increasingly connected, innovative and inclusive”, explains Agostino Riitano, director of Procida 2022.”
“Procida HaC(k)ultura” aims to develop visions of a sustainable future starting from projects and solutions that can be implemented with the support of technology. At the design table – explains Francesca Cocco, responsible for the Innovation Village projects for Procida Capital of Culture – there will be university students and researchers, planners, designers, digital programmers, innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals, activists specialized in innovative, sustainable and intelligent mobility, creative and cultural entrepreneurship, research, preservation, care of the environment and the marine ecosystem.
The event will also feature well-known figures from the world of innovation and development – such as Giorgio Ventre, scientific director of the Apple Developer Academy, Rosanna Romano, general director for cultural policies and tourism, Valeria Fascione, councilor for research, innovation and start-ups for the Campania Region, and numerous experts from the CNR, ISPRA, Federico II University and tech companies who will inspire and help participants develop ideas in the field.
The hackathon will also host a talk on cultural institutions and community engagement by Anne Taylor Brittingham – deputy director for Education and Responsive Learning Spaces and Donna Jonte – head of Experiential Learning, of the Phillips Collection in Washington, accompanied by the Consul for Press and Culture, Michelle Lee.
All organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of the United States of America in Naples. At the end of the two days, the four most deserving projects will be awarded by a jury of specialists. The goal is to start from a pilot project designed specifically for Procida and potentially transferable to other territorial contexts.
