Eav, the company that manages public transport in Campania, has announced the suspension of two ticket collectors and six inspectors for irregularities.
Article Key Points
The two ticket collectors, one on duty at Napoli at the Piazza Garibaldi station of the Circumvesuviana and the other on the line to Sorrento, were accused of having collected excess money from passengers and keeping the change for themselves.
The six controllers, however, were suspended for five days for having issued an insufficient number of tickets for non-payment.
The president of Eav, Umberto De Gregorio, commented - to the newspaper Il Mattino which anticipated the news - on the measures adopted by stating that it is "an extreme but necessary act to protect the vast majority of workers who operate with dedication and seriousness and to protect users, who are the true shareholders of our company which provides a public service".
De Gregorio also invited all users and employees to report, even anonymously, any type of behavior that conflicts with public ethics.
Case details
In the case of the two ticket sellers, the investigations were started following reports from some passengers. Eav investigators found that the two employees, especially towards foreign tourists, gave passengers tickets of a lower value than the money collected.
In the case of the six controllers, however, the company analyzed the data on the fines issued in a year. It emerged that the six employees never caught a passenger without a ticket, despite the fact that the rate of ticket evasion on Eav buses is around 30%.
Eav's Iron Fist
Eav has chosen to take a hard line against employees who do not respect the rules. After the dismissal of nine employees, accused of exchanging badges to clock in, now come two suspensions and six sanctions.
The measures adopted by the company are a strong signal for all employees, who are called to respect the rules and carry out their work with dedication and seriousness.
