The Rome GUP has sent journalist Enrico Varriale to trial on charges of stalking and aggravated assault against his ex-partner. The alleged facts date back to the period between December 2021 and February 2022 and the trial has been set for November 20.
Article Key Points
According to the prosecution, Varriale, already on trial for stalking another woman, allegedly attacked his ex-partner in her home "until she lost consciousness" and injured her.
The man then allegedly threatened the woman who, after recovering, called for help: “If you report me I'll kill you,” is the phrase reported in the indictment.
Varriale also allegedly stalked his ex by contacting her through anonymous numbers, checking her social media profiles, and threatening her with anonymous phone calls in which he said things like “you’ll die.”
The journalist denied the accusations, saying he had never attacked or threatened his ex-partner. He said he had only contacted her to clarify the situation and had never intended to harm her.
The trial will shed light on the affair
The trial that will open on November 20th will have to clarify Varriale's responsibilities in light of the accusations formulated by the Prosecutor's Office and his version of the facts.
Witnesses and parties involved will be heard to reach a final verdict.
