Modena. A 48-year-old man was arrested for aggravated murder after confessing to killing his wife and taking her corpse to the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Modena.
The dramatic epilogue occurred late yesterday evening. The man showed up at the police station with the van parked outside, inside which lay the woman's lifeless body.
The Carabinieri, alerted, found the victim, a 40-year-old Italian woman of Russian origins, curled up in the trunk in a fetal position. According to an initial reconstruction by the coroner, the woman was suffocated with a belt tied around her neck and then covered with a black plastic bag.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple was in the process of separating and that the woman had initiated legal proceedings in Austria to obtain sole custody of the minor children. The man, in turn, had contested the jurisdiction of the Austrian court and filed a petition for judicial separation in Italy.
The 48 year old, arrested for aggravated murder, was taken to the Modena prison pending validation of the arrest.
The story, which has shocked the Modena community, sheds light once again on the dramatic reality of violence against women and the tragic epilogues that can arise from family conflicts, particularly when linked to child custody.
