Naples, the repentant and the fear of the increase in the protection money at the famous pizzeria in Forcella: “So gruoss…they are scary”

“San Gaetano and San Bagio dei Librai fall under the control of the Mazzarellas and are areas entrusted to the San Gaetano gang. Until my arrest, as far as I know, the only pizzeria that paid the Mazzarellas was precisely that of “dal Presidente”.

These are the confessions of Salvatore Giuliano o' russ who has been a collaborator of Justice since last year. He spoke of the lace to pizzerias and the imposition of mozzarella and dairy products on them.

His confessions allowed investigators to reveal all the affairs of the Mazzarellas and the federated clan in the historic center of Napoli.

“In San Gaetano the Mazzarellas currently take money from illegal parking and from the Mniello drug dealing square, which is located in the alley near the Di Matteo Pizzeria. In reality the other commercial activities were not paying only because of the closure for covid”.

Salvatore Giuliano also talks about the project to join the activities of the Mazzarella clan for the imposition of mozzarella cheese and dairy products to pizzerias.

“I later had a meeting with Barrel Salvatore, Patrium of San Giorgio and maybe also Alberto, cousin of Barile and Michele Mazzarella; the meeting took place in Forcella on a terrace of a building in vico dei Carbonari; I was in the company of Vicorito Alessio and Imparato Gennaro.

Here began the relationship for the management of business between the Giulianos and the Mazzarellas, although we both proceeded with leaden feet. We talked about the past, about the fact that there had never been blood between us, about the kinship relationships between the families, having Michele Mazzarella married my cousin Marianna, daughter of Louis Julian, called Lovigino.

We agreed that we Giulianos would enter into the "legal" activities in the neighborhoods controlled by the Mazzarella (sector selling mozzarella, bread and flour) and we would have split the profits in half, as we would have physically taken care of the supplies”.

Interesting instead is the intercepted conversation between Gennaro Imparato Alessio Vicorito and the same Salvatore Giuliano during which the fear towards the owners of a well-known pizzeria in the heart of Forcella who paid the sum of one thousand five hundred euros as extortion emerges.

 No raise at the famous pizzeria: “These ones are scary… these ones are gruoss!”.

And Imparato therefore demands that the figure be increased to two thousand euros, stating “no two thousand? (…] It should increase”; Salvatore Giuliano intervenes to mitigate Gennaro Imparato's claim, explaining that the owners could file a complaint.

And in fact he says: “we're not doing it! I want to talk to him, I want to talk to him because… (…] It's dangerous to ask him for a raise! (…] These guys are big, these guys are scary… if they're good and proper… these guys say… “what do you understand?”!… they put themselves in the hands of the guards, do you understand? These guys are scary… do you understand? These guys are scary… these guys are big!”.

“A furcell I know five patan”

The next day Gennaro Learned illustrates to Salvatore Giuliano and to Alessio Vicorito the potential revenue that can be derived from the collection of extortion sums from catering businesses.

And he explains with satisfaction: “already almost ten of them or bro… don't say anything… but at five hundred, that's five patan' to Furcell… (ten activities at five hundred euros are five thousand euros)… some a thousand and five, some a thousand, some five hundred!”.

The message to the unruly pizzeria: “I came for the gift”

And then Salvatore Giuliano, speaking of a pizzeria that was reluctant to pay the pizzo, explains to the emissary how he should behave: “you should have the owner called directly (…) Have the owner called and tell him, listen… I came for the gift you are hunting for the season! […] Tell him, will you tell me when I have to come by or do you want to come by?”.
