On November 9th at 10am, Foqus, the Fondazione Quartieri Spagnoli ETS, and Dpdb – Dalla Parte Dei Bambini – Impresa Sociale will gather in Piazza Cavour in Naples. They will participate with other local entities to request an extraordinary plan of resources for education.
The recent tragic deaths of Emanuele Tufano, 15, and the 19-year-old Holy Roman urgently brought back the topic of education and prevention. For years, Foqus and Dpdb have been active in the territory, committed to promoting innovative and inclusive educational practices.
“We could not remain indifferent to such an important 'call', which deeply involves the Neapolitan associative fabric”.
“In recent years, dozens of young people have lost their lives on the streets of Naples, victims of the Camorra, urban violence and marginalization. Weapons of various types, including guns and explosives, circulate freely in the streets, squares, alleys and schools of the city, sowing pain and death.
Guns and drugs are all too accessible, often ending up in the hands of young and very young people. Freeing Naples from the culture of guns is an urgent necessity, which requires a deep-rooted and long-lasting political and cultural strategy. Almost forty years have passed since Giancarlo Siani's article on the 'muschilli', the minors exploited by the Camorra.
Yet today we still witness, incredulously, children and adolescents involved in violent dynamics, rather than seeing a weakening of this logic".
“These minors, increasingly abandoned and angry, are capable of committing tragic acts because of the environment in which they grow up, a context dominated by violent codes and hierarchies. They remain invisible to the eyes of politics and public opinion, which only notices them after tragedies have occurred.
We, neighborhood groups, parishes, schools, cooperatives, social movements, cultural spaces, libraries, sports associations, feel the urgency of a clear position. We believe in education as a tool for relationships, as a possibility for the future, capable of breaking down the barriers that divide Naples. We cannot rest easy as long as a young person has fewer opportunities than his peers just because he was born in a difficult context”.
“We ask that education, prevention and social inclusion return to the center of the political debate in Campania. Children do not vote, but their education determines the present and future of the city.
We need an ambitious project for Naples and Campania, a pact between institutions, the third sector, schools, businesses and religious groups: we need decent work, concrete security, control of the territory and an extraordinary educational plan, which goes beyond superficial and repressive measures.
On November 9th at 10.00:XNUMX, in Piazza Cavour, we will hold a public assembly, a moment of listening and discussion to give voice to the need for an extraordinary educational plan, and to ask that our educational practices become public policies. To give continuity and resources to the care work that we carry out in schools and communities”, concludes the note.
