Milan, 31 December 2024 – Swisscom, the Swiss telecommunications giant and owner of Fastweb, has officially completed the acquisition of Vodafone Italy. The operation marks the birth of Fastweb+Vodafone, the new brand that is preparing to become the largest infrastructure operator in the country.
A record-breaking operation
The acquisition, which had been in the air for over a year, originated in December 2023, when Fastweb began negotiations with Vodafone to obtain strategic access to mobile networks. With a solid presence in the fixed telephony sector, Fastweb saw the operation as an opportunity to strengthen its position in the mobile sector as well.
Fastweb+Vodafone will be able to count on over 20 million mobile lines and 5,6 million fixed lines, supported by a vast network that includes more than 20.000 mobile radio sites e 74.000 km of fiber optic infrastructure (FTTH). This merger will create widespread coverage across the country, positioning the new operator as the undisputed leader of the Italian market.
What changes for users?
For the moment, nothing. The new entity has guaranteed the continuity of service for Fastweb and Vodafone customers, while also maintaining the brand I have. MobileThe three brands will continue to operate separately under the control of Swisscom, without any action being required by users. Current contracts and offers will remain unchanged until further official communication.
The operation, which marks a historic turning point in the Italian telecommunications landscape, could pave the way for new integrated offers and an acceleration of the expansion of the fibre optic network on a national scale.

The acquisition of Vodafone by Fastweb is something that has been happening for a long time, but I don't know if it will be good for users in the end, let's just hope that there are no problems in the services.
