Moments of fear this morning at Montefredane, in the province of Avellino, where a violent fire invaded a house in via Perdito: the blaze, which broke out around eight in the morning due to a malfunction of the chimney flue, quickly engulfed the kitchen of the house, seriously endangering a 87 year old with mobility difficulties.
Despite the flames and the critical situation, the elderly man managed, albeit with great difficulty, to reach the exit and save himself before the fire spread further. The emergency services immediately intervened on site. Fire fighters, who put out the flames and prevented more extensive damage to the entire building.
Fortunately, the timely intervention of the rescue services prevented worse consequences, but the accident rekindles the attention on domestic safety, in particular on the risks linked to chimneys and fireplaces in private homes.
