Ciro Immobile has no doubts, the future of football depends on young people: during the inauguration of the Real Estate Academy in Torre Annunziata, the Besiktas striker expressed all his pride for a project born to offer the boys a concrete opportunity for sporting growth.
Article Key Points
"We often talk about expectations and the lack of facilities in Italy. Our territory needed a structure like this. The talent is there and it is important to bring the kids back to the field, away from phones and sofas", he told Sky Sport. Immobile took advantage of the international break to return to talking about the blue shirt, which he wore with pride for years.
"Playing for Italy has always been a thrill. I think about the victory in the European Championship, the beautiful moments I had with the national team. Today the Azzurri are challenging Germany and we know that the Germans always talk before matches, but then the story is often different, especially at home. Good luck to the Azzurri and Spalletti".
Regarding Italy's new attack, led by Kean and Retegui, Immobile said he was confident: “They are two different strikers, but both important. They can compete for a place in every game”. And on another Italy-Germany, the one from Euro 2016 that ended on penalties, he doesn't hide his bitterness: “It still hurts, I remember the tears of people like Barzagli. A united group had been created and losing like that was very hard”.
Immobile on Napoli, Lazio and the Scudetto fight
Immobile also spoke about Serie A and Antonio's impact Tale on the Napoli bench: “When Napoli plays well, people live for football here, it changes their day, their life. Conte has brought back the passion that was a bit lost. They can play until the end”. On the fight for the Scudetto, the striker knows the two protagonists well: “Inzaghi and Conte? Two crazy people, two madmen. I was lucky enough to work with both of them, they are meticulous, obsessed with winning, you can see it on the pitch”.
And on Lazio, his former team, he comments: “He’s entertaining, even those who aren’t fans watch his games. He’s had a physical decline, but he can recover, especially in Europe”. After a career at the highest levels in Italy, Immobile is enjoying a new experience at Besiktas. On Turkish football he explains: "It's similar to the Spanish and Portuguese ones. Even less famous teams can put you in difficulty".
Led by a former striker like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Immobile says he is satisfied: “I feel good, he still has the mentality of a player. He is very English in terms of training methods”. And about the future? The idea of becoming a coach is not in his immediate thoughts: “I’m still in player mode. The great coaches have almost all been midfielders, only Inzaghi is an exception. We’ll see, it’s too early to think about it”.
