A fire in the building for economic reasons: he was about to be evicted.
The Carabinieri of the Castelnuovo di Porto Station, in the Metropolitan City of Rome, have arrested a 53-year-old originally from Napoli and with a criminal record, investigated for the crime of aggravated arson.
The night before the arrest, flames broke out after someone, using flammable liquid, set fire to the entrance doors of three apartments in a building and a garage not adjacent to the homes.
The intervention of the military and the Fire Brigade allowed the entire building to be evacuated in time and 12 families to be saved.
The building was engulfed in thick smoke that rose to the third floor but the flames did not spread inside the building, where cans of petrol and other highly flammable materials had also been placed, in addition to the gas cylinder present in the garage.
The Carabinieri investigations have allowed them to gather serious evidence of guilt against the 53-year-old and the motive: financial problems. He should have been evicted this morning for non-payment.
He was taken to Rebibbia prison to await the validation hearing before the court.
