A 22-year-old from Sant'Arpino was placed under house arrest by the investigating judge of the Naples North court on charges of road homicide.
According to the Carabinieri's investigations, the boy, on the evening of April 6, while he was driving his car with two friends returning from an evening in Naples, allegedly hit and killed the 57-year-old cyclist Rocco Novelletti from Frattamaggiore.
The accident occurred in via Mazzini in Grumo Nevano. The man, due to the impact with the car, was thrown onto the hood, the roof and then onto the asphalt, suffering very serious injuries that caused his death.
The investigation revealed that the 22-year-old was traveling at a speed higher than the legal limit and that, at the time of the accident, he was using his cell phone. The young man, in fact, allegedly filmed himself on video while he was in via Mazzini and shortly after called 118 to report the incident.
The Prosecutor's Office charged the 22-year-old with, in addition to road homicide, the aggravating circumstance of having caused the victim's death while under the influence of narcotics or psychotropic substances.
The results of the toxicology tests are still pending, but initial investigations suggest that the boy had taken drugs before getting behind the wheel.
The house arrest order was issued due to the risk of repeating the crime, in light of the 22-year-old's dangerous and irresponsible driving behavior.

The investigations will have to clarify the exact dynamics of the accident and outline the responsibilities of the 22-year-old.
